How the Wegovy Pill works
The Wegovy Pill contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the Wegovy pen. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It copies a natural hormone in your body called GLP-1, which helps control appetite and blood sugar.

It acts on the parts of the brain that control hunger and fullness. You feel satisfied sooner and stay full for longer, so you eat less without constant effort.
Slows digestion
It slows the rate at which your stomach empties. Food stays in your stomach for longer, which helps reduce cravings between meals.

It supports steadier blood sugar levels by helping your body release insulin when it is needed.

Key differences from the weekly injection
The Wegovy Pill uses the same medicine as the Wegovy pen, but it is taken differently.
- No needles. The pill is swallowed, so there is no injecting and no injection sites to manage.
- Taken daily, not weekly. You take one tablet every morning, rather than one injection once a week.
- Timing matters. Take it on an empty stomach, first thing, with no more than 120ml of water. Wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink anything else, or take other medicines.
- A daily routine. Because it is taken every day at the same time, it suits people who prefer a set daily habit over a weekly injection.
